Today we learned the actor David Huddleston has passed away on August 2nd at the age of 85 years. David Huddleston is best known as A. J. Covington (The Literary Man) in The Waltons who had a great impact on John-Boy for his future.

David Huddleston has been a very busy actor. More details about his work can be found here.

We loved the figure of A.J. Covington because he has left a great impression on John-Boy. David Huddleston also portrayed Sheriff Bridges in The Homecoming.

Goodnight David Huddleston !

Ellen Corby, Esther Walton from the series, died on 14 April 1999 at the age of 87 years in Los Angeles.

Here is another post by Scott Hamner for everybody who is not on facebook:

"I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support offered to the Hamner family. As pleased as you may imagine Dad would be by the kindness and warm regard you have shown him and to the Hamner family, Dad would be even more pleased than that! Honestly, we are humbled and overwhelmed (in a good way) and it eases our hearts just a little bit...
We have been asked about a memorial or service and all I can tell you at this time is that Dad was emphatically opposed to the idea. He even made my mother promise him not to even consider the idea! So, we are respecting his wishes, but at the same time trying to imagine a way to remember him that he would like. (I.e., we all meet at the James River in Virgina and go fishing and drink a lot of Jack Daniels.) In the meantime, if you feel you need to do something to honor him, you will find below a list of organizations that Dad supported. A charitable gift in his memory would make him proud.
Thank you again for you sharing your prayers, pictures, rembrances, etc. If I didn't love him so much, I would say it is too much (but it isnt!).
Warmest regards,
Scott Hamner"

Many of you know that Earl Hamner received the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum Humanitarian Award in August 2015. Will Geer (Grandpa Walton) once founded the open-air theater in the hills of Los Angeles. Today it is run by his daughter Ellen Geer with a lot of passion .

Due to his serious illness Earl Hamner was not able to attend the ceremony in person. Ellen Geer visited Earl Hamner at his home to personally present him with this award . This encounter was captured on video and later was shown at the ceremony in the Will Geer Botanicum Theatricum. So Earl Hamner was a bit with us, even he could not be present physically that day.

Here you can find the entire video. It contains the acceptance speech Earls, the presentation of the award by Ellen Geer to Earl and Richard Thomas is to see and hear . What a treasure !

Anyone wishing to send a letter or card to the family may do so at the address below. My mother (who does not have a Facebook account) would find this especially comforting. Thanks!

It's late now in Virginia, that ball field which once echoed to the sounds of our games is quiet except for the call of crickets and the ghosts of the children we were. For my brothers and sisters and I are all grown now, and our children play other games in places far from Waltons Mountain. Still, there's something about the fall of night that turns our thoughts homeward.

Goodnight Earl

Very sad news by Earl Hamners family on facebook !

"I am very sorry to be the bearer of sad news. My father, Earl Hamner, passed away today at 12:20 PM Pacific time. Dad died peacefully in his sleep at Cedar Sinai Hospital. He was surrounded by family, and we were playing his favorite music, John Denver's Rocky Mountain Collection. Dad took his last breath half way through Ricky Mountain High. I am sure many of you know Dad was ill, but his amazing tenacity and fight masked how seriously ill he has been over the last year and a half. He was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2014, and had surgery performed in July on his 91st birthday. Unfortunately, the cancer had metastasized. The surgery was very invasive and when we went to see him in the ICU we were warned to prepare ourselves that it was uncertain he would make it through the night. I want to thank each and every one of you for your prayers, good wishes and kind thoughts - I can assure you that they sustained Dad and helped him to recover enough to proudly witness the final production of 'Earl Hamner: Storyteller', become the honored recipient of The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum Humanitarian Award, and accept Media Heritage Founder's Award. There is not a doubt in my mind that he would not have made it this far without you -- and we had the good fortune to keep him in our lives a bit longer despite the odds against him. He never got enough of this great gift of life with which we have all been so deeply blessed -- and he hung on as tightly as anyone could with insatiable passion and wonder. My heart is broken as I say, "Goodnight, Dad!" - Scott Hamner"

We are so sad and our thoughts and prayers are with Jane, Caroline and Scott and the entire family of Earl Hamner.
