The Walton actor Joe Conley interviewed by Dagmar

On the occasion of the Walton Reunion 2010 in Lynchburg at Oct. 22./23.2010 I was very lucky beeing able to talk to Joe Conley several times. Joe is a very accessible person who obviously loves the contact to his fans very much.  Despite all his success in the show biz he has remained a very down to earth person.

Joe was accompanied by his equally friendly and lovely wife Louise. Both had taken prior to this meeting a fourteen-day cruise along the coast of North America (including Canada).

Ahead of the Walton reunion I sent a letter to Joe Conley asking about a short interview and I attached my questions with this letter. I was not sure whether he would respond to my questions, but here are the answers he and Louise carried with them for 14 days while beeing on their Cruise (as Louise told me ;-).

Dagmar:
Germany still has many, many fans of "The Waltons". Everyone here knows the tv show. The fans in Germany would like to know if you have ever been in Germany. And if so, how did you like it here ? Which region did you visit ?

Joe Conley:
I´ve visited Germany twice. The first time was the summer of 1970. My wife and I took the Berlin Express from Paris to Berlin. We spent a few days there and then took a train to Osnabruck where we picked up a new car, a VW. We went up the Rhine and then over to Salzburg. Most pleasant ! Our second trip was in ´87. It was a guided tour with our children. We again took a boat ride down the Rhine.

Dagmar:
Do you sometimes watch The Waltons on TV ?

Joe Conley:
I never have viewed The Waltons on TV since the original showing.

Dagmar:
Do you have The Waltons on DVD at home ? Be honest ;-) !

Joe Conley:
Yes, I have the DVD of all The Waltons. I´ve watched a few episodes.

Dagmar:
In your book you describe the regular meetings with Eric Scott for lunch and the friendship between you both. Are there any regular contact with your film wife Corabeth Godsey - Ronnie Claire Edwards ?

Joe Conley:
I have seen Ronnie a few times at fan club activities or when we filmed the Reunion shows in ´93, ´95 and ´97.

She has now moved to Texas which is a thousand miles away.

Dagmar:
Do you miss the "old Waltons days" sometimes ?

Joe Conley:
Yes, I miss filming The Waltons. It was a joy. But life moves on. There are different joys as time goes on.

Dagmar:
Suppose all The Waltons performer would come together again for a very special Reunion show. Would you also attend ?

Joe Conley:
Yes, it would be great to film another episode. But don´t hold your breath.

Dagmar:
Do you have any special plans for the next future ?

Joe Conley:
Louise and I enjoy traveling but my eyesight limits my travels. I pray that my eyesight doesn´t worsen.

Addendum from Joe:
You ask good questions !

Dear Joe, thank you for this pleasant interview. We wish you and Louise and your family all the best and may your eyesight improve considerably hopefully.
